At What Point Did Today Go Back To 1960?

I was just ending my work day and thought I would check the weather.  The link to the following article got my attention (courtesy of WRAL.com):

Wal-Mart Altercation Leads to Charges

Donovan Patrick Williams faces weapons and drug charges after an incident outside the Greenville (NC) Wal-Mart Friday.

According to police, Williams accosted a bi-racial couple outside the store, then shot at their vehicle. Williams was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm, marijuana possession and five other misdemeanors.

At a hearing on Monday, District Attorney Clark Everett declined to add a hate crimes charge to those Williams is facing. The racial aspect of Williams' alleged crimes will be taken into account in sentencing, Greenville police said. Copyright 2008 by WRAL.com. All rights reserved.

I cannot believe this.  Of course, no specifics about the races of the agressor or the couple have been released, but what happened!  Just when you think we are making progress, you see this!

 

Was the guy mad because his ex went over the color line?  Maybe his interracial love interest rejected him.  Maybe his behind is just crazy! 

 

What do you think?  Is this prevalent where you are?  Has anything like this (and hopefully not to this extent) ever happened to you?

 

I was approached once in a mall in Greensboro, NC.  I was with the white guy I was dating at the time.  He walked away to look at something and his "brotha" came up and starting cussing me out under his breath.  I replied with the not-so-nice version of "leave me alone, dummy" and not so quietly and walked off.  Suppose that fool had been as crazy as this guy. 

 

I didn't know this guy from a can of paint, but he felt the need to walk up to me and express his "opinion".  What did he expect me to do?  Walk away from "Jared" and live my life within the (color) lines?  What is wrong with people!

 

Geez!
